Using GPS Check In

A group admin must enable this check in method for each event.

Where to find GPS Check In

You can find the GPS Check in link on the dashboard.

When you sign up for an event that allows you to check in/out using GPS, you'll see a "GPS Check In" button located on the dashboard's To-Do section.

Note: The To-Do section will not be visible if you do not have any "To Do" items.

How to Check In/out

Once you click "GPS Check In," you'll see a popup letting you know you are about to receive a prompt asking you to share your location. Once you click "Open GPS Check In," Please click allow when prompted.

VolunteerStudio will ask you to share your location. We will never save your exact location, only how far away you are from an event once you check in or out.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. If you denied location access, refresh the page to re-prompt location access.

  2. If you never received a prompt, check these links to make sure location services are enabled for your browser:

    1. Safari (Apple):

  3. Make sure GPS is enabled on your device/

  4. IPhone users go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Location and Privacy. Refresh the page and click allow.

  5. Contact a group leader/admin to check you in manually.

GPS Check In has failed.

There are several reasons why GPS Check In/Out can fail.

  • You are trying to check in before the event has started.

  • You are greater than .5 miles away from the event.
